On July 17.1861 the U.S Government printed the first nationaly used paper dollars know then as ‘green backs’.

Did you also know….?

That on July 17, 1864, John Bell Hood (CSA) was appointed commander of the Department of the Tennessee in place of General Joseph E. Johnston. His assignment as the new commander of the Dept. of Tennessee was to defend Atlanta Georgia from the oncoming troops of General William Tecumseh Sherman’s (USA)  army.
